When should I sign up for the service?

The ideal time to start working together is 6 - 12 months before your target departure date. Earlier is always better so that we can provide guidance on timing as you plan out your move. If you have any questions about your situation, send us an email at labs@bordr.com

What is not included in Bordr's Digital Nomad visa service?

  • Scheduling of your appointment with VFS or the Portuguese Embassy/Consulate
  • Portuguese NIF and Portuguese bank account
  • Government fees related to requesting documents and authenticating documents in your country of residence
  • Accompanying you in person to AIMA (formerly SEF) appointment in Portugal

Can I apply for the Digital Nomad visa in Portugal?

No, you cannot apply for the Digital Nomad visa in Portugal. You must submit your visa application in your country of residence.

Can I stay in Portugal while waiting for my visa to be approved?

After submitting your visa application in your home country, we highly recommend that you stay there until it's approved. Some consulates may require you to use the issued visa to enter Portugal even if you can enter without one.

What documents are acceptable for proof of income?

Based on your income source, you will need to present a combination of the following:

  • Employment contract
  • Employment verification letter
  • Pay stubs
  • Company registration documents
  • Invoices
  • Contracts or service agreements
  • Bank statements

What are the minimum stay requirements in Portugal after getting my visa?

In order to maintain your residency status, you must stay in Portugal for a minimum of:

  • 183 days (~6 months) if spent consecutively in Portugal, without any breaks
  • 240 days (~8 months) if spent non-consecutively, allowing for travel in and out of Portugal

The start date of your stay requirement is based on the date that your residence card was issued.
