Leaving the United StatesĀ for a life abroad.
We used to live in the San Francisco Bay Area and both worked in tech. In 2016, we quit our jobs to go independent and started a web design agency. After a couple of years of running the business online and never meeting our clients in person, we realized that we could work from anywhere.
ā
So, at the beginning of 2018, we packed our bags and sold almost all of our belongings. We left California to try out the digital nomad lifestyle. Needless to say, we loved it so much that we never went back! Over the next two years, we traveled the world and made new friends in amazing places like Chiang Mai, Taipei, Tokyo, Berlin, Medellin, and Porto.
Towards the end of 2019, we decided that while we loved the nomadic lifestyle, we wanted to slow down and find a semi-permanent place to call home. Thatās when we discovered the Portugal D7 visa and decided to give it a try.
In January 2020, we flew to NYC then took the train down to Washington DC. We handed in our applications to the VFS office in Washington DC and arrived in Lisbon in February 2020.
Over the next several months, we started to get acquainted with life in Portugal. We went through all the paperwork that you must be going through now. We got our NIFs, set up a bank account, signed up for health insurance, registered with SNS ā the list goes on.
After experiencing the challenges of moving to Portugal, we thought that we could offer a better experience for others doing the same. Bordr is the outcome of those early discussions and weāre excited to offer the service that we wish we had.
If you have any questions at all, send us a message. We'd love to hear from you!
Cheers from sunny Portugal!
