How to check your Portugal property tax (IMI) online

Follow these step-by-step instructions to check your Portugal property tax (IMI) online through Portal das Finanças.

Overview

Property tax in Portugal is referred to as Imposto Municipal sobre Imóveis (IMI). As a property owner in Portugal, you are liable to pay your IMI annually.

Your IMI bills are sent by mail to the address associated with your NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal). If you would like to check your property tax (IMI) online through Portal das Finanças, you can follow the instructions below.

The payment of your property tax (IMI) is separate from the filing of your personal income tax return in Portugal.

Step 1: Log in to Portal das Finanças

1. Go to https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/

2. Click on the Iniciar Sessão button at the top right corner of the page.

3. Click on the NIF tab.

4. Enter your NIF number. Where can I find my NIF number?

5. Enter your password.

6. Click the Autenticar button.

Step 2: Navigate to the Outstanding Payments page

1. Search for the keyword Pagamentos a Decorrer using the search bar at the top of the page.

2. Find ”Pagamentos A Decorrer” and click Aceder.

3. You will see all outstanding tax dues on this page.

Step 3: Locate your IMI bill

1. Type “IMI” on the upper right side of the table to filter the list for your property tax bills.

2. Once you’ve located your IMI bill, you will find the following details about your property taxes:
